As experts frequently emphasize, Loss of Control In-flight remains a leading cause of fatal aviation accidents, according to industry safety reporting. UPRT addresses this risk directly, giving pilots both the muscle memory and the theoretical grounding to recognize an unexpected upset and recover before it becomes unrecoverable.
By intentionally performing advanced aerobatic maneuvers such as spins, loops, and rolls, pilots who join the program gain a clearer understanding of what an aircraft, and they themselves, can handle. Flight College notes that this exposure tends to make routine operations feel less demanding, helping participants become more capable stick-and-rudder pilots overall.
Three curriculum tracks make up the program. Basic Spin Recovery & Unusual Attitudes targets private pilot students and CFIs pursuing spin endorsements, covering stall recognition and instinctive recovery from extreme pitch and bank angles. UPRT is built for commercial and corporate career-track pilots, addressing wake turbulence encounters, instrument-condition unusual attitudes, and control failures in line with FAA advisory guidance. Finally, Introductory Aerobatics is open to any licensed pilot and covers maneuvers including aileron rolls, barrel rolls, loops, Cuban 8s, and hammerheads.
Enrollment carries clear prerequisites: participants must hold, at minimum, a Student Pilot Certificate with Solo Endorsement, or be a fully certificated Private Pilot or higher. Every participant must carry a current FAA Medical Certificate.
The program reflects Flight College's founding mission of closing the distance between basic flight instruction and the standards expected at professional airlines. Based in Terrell, Texas, the school conducts UPRT and spin training in its Grob 115D2 aircraft, an airframe designed specifically for this type of instruction.
