Guides Collective is building a trusted starting point that privately matches psychedelic curious adults with vetted, experienced guides.
-- Guides Collective has announced the continued development of its private matching platform designed to help people exploring psychedelic support identify experienced guides based on their individual circumstances, goals, preferences, and support needs.

Building the Missing First Step in Psychedelic Guidance
Interest in psychedelics has expanded beyond research settings into broader conversations about mental health, personal growth, grief, trauma, relationships, and wellbeing. Yet for people considering this emerging field, one practical question can remain difficult to answer: where should the search for qualified support begin?
Guides Collective was created to address that gap.
Founder Troy Allen describes the problem through an analogy to primary care. In conventional healthcare, a person can begin with a trusted general practitioner who considers the broader situation and, when appropriate, refers that person to a specialist. People exploring psychedelics often lack a comparable starting point. Instead, they may encounter directories, social media profiles, retreat providers, online communities, or personal referrals without a consistent framework for comparing experience, training, ethics, and approach.
"In medicine, you don't pick a specialist off a billboard. You first see someone you trust (your general practitioner), and they point you to the right specialist for your specific needs. That step doesn't exist in psychedelics, and that's the gap we're filling," said Troy Allen, Founder of Guides Collective.
The company positions its platform as a neutral matching service rather than a provider of psychedelic medicine or a promoter of a particular substance, retreat, or protocol.
A Private Matching Model Instead of an Open Directory
Guides Collective uses an intake and matching model rather than asking people exploring psychedelic support, whom the company refers to as "seekers," to browse a public directory and select a practitioner without additional context.
According to the company, seekers begin with a private intake that takes approximately five minutes. The process gathers information relevant to matching, including personal goals, health considerations, medications, life circumstances, preferences, and budget.
Guides Collective then uses that information to identify two potential matches from its network of more than 300 guides. Matches are intended to reflect factors such as the guide's training, experience, specialty, approach, and compatibility with the seeker's stated circumstances. The matching process also considers factors such as location and price point.
Seekers can review information about their matches, including profiles, training, approach, and reviews. They can then schedule a free 30 minute introductory conversation to determine whether there is an appropriate fit.
If both parties decide to work together, the Guides Collective platform can support subsequent scheduling, payments, and communication through one secure platform.
"We're a neutral party. We don't sell retreats and we don't push any particular medicine. Our job is to get you into the right hands so you can make an informed decision, even if that decision is to wait," Allen said.
A Ten Step Vetting Process Designed Around Trust
The company says every guide accepted into its network must complete a ten step vetting process. This includes interviews, background checks, reference checks, and verification of relevant training.
Guides Collective looks for practitioners with backgrounds in facilitation, therapy, coaching, or related forms of support, as well as experience with trauma informed practices and clearly defined professional boundaries. The review process also considers preparation, integration, safety practices, emergency protocols, ethics, and a guide's commitment to continued professional and personal development.
"Anyone can put themselves on a directory. That's the problem. Every guide in our network has been through interviews, background checks, reference checks, and training verification before they ever meet a seeker," Allen said.
The model is intended to provide more context than an open listing platform while preserving privacy for both seekers and guides. Guides are introduced privately to people whose stated needs correspond with their areas of experience rather than relying on public rankings or paid placement. According to Guides Collective, the quality of its guide network is a central priority, with approximately one in three guides who apply being accepted.
Preparation and Integration Remain Central to the Model
Guides Collective places preparation and integration alongside the process of finding a guide. The company views psychedelic related support as broader than a single experience and emphasizes conversations about readiness, expectations, boundaries, circumstances, and ongoing support.
This approach is particularly relevant as scientific and public interest in psychedelic assisted interventions continues to develop while important questions remain about clinical standards, access, practitioner training, safety, and implementation.
The company does not position matching as a recommendation to use a psychedelic substance. Instead, its stated objective is to connect seekers with appropriate support so they can ask informed questions, understand available approaches, and determine whether proceeding is suitable for their circumstances.
"The people who reach out to us aren't looking for a trip. They're looking for a safe place to start. That's what we want Guides Collective to be for the psychedelic curious," Allen said. "A place to ask real questions and get real answers from trained professionals."
Building Infrastructure for an Emerging Field
Allen has spent six years working in the psychedelic field and previously helped launch a guide training institute. Through that experience, he identified challenges on both sides of the relationship: seekers struggled to determine whom they could trust, while experienced guides often struggled to connect privately with people seeking their particular specialties.
Guides Collective was developed to address both sides through matching, vetting, private introductions, and relationship management tools within one platform.
The early stage, privately funded company does not use paid rankings or listing fees to generate revenue. According to Guides Collective, participating guides instead pay a small percentage of client payments generated through the platform, helping separate placement within the matching process from advertising spend.
For guides, the platform is designed to provide private introductions rather than public exposure. For seekers, the objective is to create a structured entry point where training, approach, compatibility, and support can be considered before a working relationship begins.
